Quick Start for Melco
This page describes how to install and run MinimServer 2 on a Melco music library. For information about MinimServer 2 as part of the Melco Intelligent Music Library, see the MinimServer 2 for Melco page.
Installing MinimServer 2
For details of how to install MinimServer 2 on the following Melco models, see this page.
- Melco N1, N5 (1.02 or later firmware)
- N10/2, N10, N50, N100, N1Z/2EX, N1A/2EX, N1Z/EX, N1A/EX (4.01 or later firmware)
- Melco N10, N100 (1.03 or earlier firmware)
For details of how to install MinimServer 2 on a Melco N1Z or N1A (not EX Series) running firmware 3.93 or lower, see this page.
Selecting a Melco MIML browsing profile
Note: The Melco MIML browsing profiles are available only for the following Melco MIML models:
- Melco N1, N5 (1.02 or later firmware)
- N10/2, N10, N50, N1Z, N1Z/2EX, N1A/2EX, N1Z/EX, N1A/EX (4.01 or later firmware)
- Melco N10, N100 (1.03 or earlier firmware)
MIML models only: To select one of the preconfigured Melco MIML profiles for browsing your library, do the following:
- From the main menu, select Settings > Music Database > Tree Indexes
- Select any of the profile choices
- When the display shows OK, the selected profile is active and MinimServer is retarting. You can check the current status of MinimServer (see above) to see when the restart has completed.
Configuring MinimServer 2 settings using MinimWatch 2
To configure MinimServer 2 settings using MinimWatch 2, do the following:
- Download MinimWatch 2 from the Downloads page. You need to use MinimWatch 2 because previous versions of MinimWatch are not compatible with MinimServer 2. MinimWatch 2 is compatible with MinimServer 2 and also with previous versions of MinimServer.
- Install the MinimWatch 2 application on another computer on your local network (Windows, Mac or Linux). You need to use MinimWatch 2 because previous versions of MinimWatch are not compatible with MinimServer 2. MinimWatch 2 is compatible with MinimServer 2 and also with previous versions of MinimServer. For details of how to download and install MinimWatch 2, see the MinimWatch page.
- For details of how to use MinimWatch, see the Running MinimWatch section.
- For a list and descriptions of the available property settings, see the Properties reference section.
- Some MinimServer settings cannot be configured in Starter Edition (see the Starter Edition page). These settings are greyed out in MinimWatch. To configure these settings, you need to either purchase and activate a full license or activate a free 30-day trial.
- To activate a full license or free 30-day trial, open the MinimServer 2 configuration web page by selecting Settings > Music Database > Configure MinimServer from the Melco front panel main menu and copying the URL shown there into the address bar of a web browser. After clicking through the License page and Welcome page, select the License tab and follow the instructions there.
- When you activate a full license or free 30-day trial, your saved configuration settings from MinimServer 0.8 (if any) will be restored automatically and will be visible in MinimWatch.
Using the MinimServer 2 configuration web interface
To use the MinimServer 2 configuration web interface, do the following:
- From the Melco front panel main menu, select Settings > Music Database > Configure MinimServer
- Copy the URL shown there into the address bar of a web browser
- After accepting the click-through license and reading the Welcome page, you will see the Status page. This shows the current status of MinimServer and provides License and Profiles tabs for further configuration options.
- The configuration web interface does not currently allow all MinimServer property settings to be viewed and changed as you are able to do in MinimWatch. This will be supported in a future version of MinimServer 2. At the present time, you need to use the MinimWatch 2 application (see above) to view or change these settings.
Checking the current status of MinimServer
To check the current status of MinimServer, do the following:
- From the Melco front panel main menu, select Status
- The Music Database line shows the current status of MinimServer
Rescanning your library after adding or removing music
To rescan your library after adding or removing music, do the following:
- From the Melco front panel main menu, select Settings > Music Database > Rescan Songs and Playlists
- While the rescan is in progress, MinimServer is not visible to UPnP control points. If you are playing music from MinimServer when the rescan starts, the music will continue to play during the rescan.
- When the display shows OK, the rescan has started but may take some time to complete. You can check the current status of MinimServer (see above) to see when the rescan has completed.
Changing the user interface language
- By default, the MinimServer user interface language is the system language that has been selected from the front panel. For DELA models, the default language is Japanese.

If you want to to use a MinimServer user interface language that is different from
the system language, you can use the
language
option of theserverOptions
property. To set this property, you need to have activated a full license or free 30-day trial (see above). For more information about this option, see the Language section. -
[NEW] Alternatively, you can set the MinimServer user interface language by editing
the
minimserver.options
file. This is useful for DELA models because these models don't have a front panel setting for the system language. -
On DELA models and Melco MIML models, the
minimserver.options
file is in theMinimServer/etc
subfolder of the Logs shared folder. On Melco N1Z and N1A (not EX) models, this file is in theMinimServer/etc
subfolder of the default shared folder. -
To set the language by editing the
minimserver.options
file, add a new linelanguage = code
wherecode
is an ISO 639-1 or ISO 639-2 language code as described in the Language section. For example, you can change the language on a DELA model from Japanese to English by adding the linelanguage = en

After changing the language setting in the
minimserver.options
file, restart MinimServer by selecting Settings > Music Database > Media Server App from the Melco or DELA front panel and selectOff
, then selectMinimServer
.
Creating and selecting a custom browsing profile
To create a custom (user-configured) profile for browsing your library, do the following:
- To do this, you need to have activated a 30-day free trial or a MinimServer 2 full license (see above)
- Use MinimWatch to configure the property settings that you want to save as a custom profile
- From the MinimServer configuration web interface (see above), select the Profiles tab
- Type the name of the profile that you want to create in the 'New profile' field, then select the 'Create Profile' button.
- The newly created profile will contain your current property settings and will become your current active profile.
To select a custom (user-configured) profile for browsing your library, do the following:
- To do this, you need to have activated a 30-day free trial or a MinimServer 2 full license (see above)
- From the MinimServer configuration web interface (see above), select the Profiles tab. The Select tab will automatically be selected below the Profiles tab.
- Select any of the available profile choices and click the 'Select Profile' button
- The new profile will be selected and MinimServer will restart. When the restart has completed, the new profile will be active.
- You can check the current status of MinimServer (see above) to see when the restart has completed
Updating MinimServer
To check for and install a new version of MinimServer, do the following:
- From the Melco front panel main menu, select Settings > Music Database > Version Check
- If there is a newer version of MinimServer available, it will be shown
- Select OK to download and install the new version
- Some minor updates are delivered automatically as online updates when MinimServer starts. For this, your Melco device needs to have internet access.
Viewing MinimServer log files
Note: The location of the log files depends on which model of Melco you have.
To view the MinimServer log files, do the following:
- Open the network shared folders page for your Melco device.

(MIML models) Open the
Logs
shared folder. This shared folder is accessible when MinimServer is installed.
(N1Z and N1A, not EX Series) Open theshare
shared folder. -
Open the
MinimServer
subfolder to view the MinimServer log files.
Installing MinimStreamer
To install the optional MinimStreamer component, do the following:
- To install and run MinimStreamer, you need to either purchase and activate a full license or activate a 30-day free trial. To activate your license or free trial, open the MinimServer 2 configuration web page by selecting Settings > Music Database > Configure MinimServer from the Melco front panel main menu and copying the URL shown there into the address bar of a web browser. Select the License tab and follow the instructions there.
- In MinimWatch 2, select Properties from the minim icon, then select the Packages tab and follow the prompts to install MinimStreamer.
- If MinimStreamer is not shown as an available package, this probably means you have not activated a free 30-day trial or full license.

- Some transcoding settings require FFmpeg to be installed. To do this, select the Packages tab in MinimWatch 2 and follow the prompts to install the ffmpeg-4.1-melco-2.0 package.
Stopping and starting MinimServer
To stop or start MinimServer, do the following:
- From the Melco front panel main menu, select Settings > Music Database > Media Server App
- To stop MinimServer, select Off
- To start MinimServer, select MinimServer
- To stop MinimServer and start Twonky, select TwonkyServer
