(2025/09/11) MinimServer update 263 released

[NEW] Prior to 1 July 2025, Melco music library devices were sold in non-Japan markets only and DELA music library devices were sold in Japan only.

From 1 July 2025, the N1 and N5 music library devices and some other products previously branded as Melco (for example, switches) will be sold under the DELA brand in all markets (Japan and non-Japan). For more information about this brand change, see the DELA home page.

This change in brand name does not affect how MinimServer supports the N1 and N5 and does not change how MinimServer supports other Melco and DELA music library devices.

Quick Start for Melco and DELA

This page describes how to install and run MinimServer on a Melco or DELA music library.

Installing MinimServer

For details of how to install MinimServer on a Melco or DELA music library device, see the Installing MinimServer on Melco and DELA page.

Checking the current status of MinimServer

To check the current status of MinimServer, do the following:

  1. From the Melco or DELA device front panel main menu, select Status
  2. The Music Database line shows the current status of MinimServer

Rescanning your library after adding or removing music

To rescan your library after adding or removing music, do the following:

  1. From the device front panel main menu, select Settings > Music Database > Rescan Songs and Playlists
  2. While the rescan is in progress, MinimServer is not visible to UPnP control points. If you are playing music from MinimServer when the rescan starts, the music will continue to play during the rescan.
  3. When the display shows OK, the rescan has started but may take some time to complete. You can check the current status of MinimServer (see above) to see when the rescan has completed.

Selecting an Intelligent Music Library browsing profile

Melco (now DELA) Intelligent Music Library includes selectable preconfigured MinimServer profiles for browsing Classical, Rock/Pop and Jazz music collections as alternatives to browsing with the default profile.

For information about MinimServer as part of the Melco (now DELA) Intelligent Music Library, see the MinimServer for Melco and DELA page.

To select one of the preconfigured Intelligent Music Library profiles for browsing your library, do the following:

  1. From the main menu, select Settings > Music Database > Tree Indexes
  2. Select any of the profile choices
  3. When the display shows OK, the selected profile is active and MinimServer is restarting. You can check the current status of MinimServer (see above) to see when the restart has completed.

Note: Intelligent Music Library browsing profiles are available only on the following Melco and DELA models:

Using the MinimServer configuration web page

To use the MinimServer configuration web page, do the following:

  1. From the device front panel main menu, select Settings > Music Database > Configure MinimServer
  2. Copy the URL shown there into the address bar of a web browser
  3. After accepting the click-through license and reading the Welcome page, you will see the Status tab of the MinimServer configuration web page.
  4. This page has additional tabs for further configuration options including viewing and updating MinimServer configuration property settings and installing MinimStreamer (see below).
  5. Some MinimServer settings cannot be configured in Starter Edition (see the Starter Edition page). These settings are greyed out on the configuration web page properties tabs. To configure these settings, you need to either purchase and activate a full license or activate a free 30-day trial (see below).

Activating the free 30-day trial license

When MinimServer is installed on a Melco or DELA music library device, this installation is a starter version of MinimServer with a limited set of features. To use all features of MinimServer, you can purchase a license upgrade to the full version of MinimServer.

You can try all the features of MinimServer at no cost by activating a trial license. For a 30-day trial period, this gives you everything you would get by purchasing a full license, with no limitations or restrictions.

To activate your trial license, select the License tab from the MinimServer configuration web page, then select Activate trial license and follow the instructions there.

Most of the added features that are available with a full license are not active until they are enabled by setting MinimServer configuration properties. To set these properties, use the Properties tab of the MinimServer configuration web page (see above).

At the end of your trial you can choose whether to revert to Starter Edition or purchase a full license to continue using all the features of the full version of MinimServer.

If you are updating to MinimServer 2 from MinimServer 0.8, all your saved configuration settings from MinimServer 0.8 will be restored automatically when you activate a full license or 30-day trial.

Configuring MinimServer settings using MinimWatch

If you want to use the MinimWatch application to configure MinimServer, do the following:

  1. Install the MinimWatch application on another computer on your local network (Windows, Mac or Linux). You need to use MinimWatch 2 because previous versions of MinimWatch are not compatible with MinimServer 2. MinimWatch 2 is compatible with MinimServer 2 and also with previous versions of MinimServer. For details of how to download and install MinimWatch, see the MinimWatch page.
  2. For details of how to use MinimWatch, see the Running MinimWatch section.
  3. For a list and descriptions of the available property settings, see the Properties reference section.
  4. Some MinimServer settings cannot be configured in Starter Edition (see the Starter Edition page). These settings are greyed out in MinimWatch. To configure these settings, you need to either purchase and activate a full license or activate a free 30-day trial (see above).

Changing the user interface language

  1. For Melco models and DELA models for non-Japan markets, the default MinimServer user interface language is the system language that has been selected from the front panel. On DELA models for the Japan market, the default language is Japanese.
  2. If you want to to use a MinimServer user interface language that is different from the system language, you can use the language option of the serverOptions property. To set this property, you need to have activated a full license or free 30-day trial (see above). For more information about this option, see the Language section.
  3. Alternatively, you can set the MinimServer user interface language by editing the minimserver.options file. This is useful for DELA (Japan) models because these models don't have a front panel setting for the system language.
  4. On DELA models and Melco Intelligent Music Library models, the minimserver.options file is in the MinimServer/etc subfolder of the Logs shared folder. On Melco N1Z and N1A (not EX) models, this file is in the MinimServer/etc subfolder of the default shared folder.
  5. To set the language by editing the minimserver.options file, add a new line
    language = code
where code is an ISO 639-1 or ISO 639-2 language code as described in the Language section. For example, you can change the language on a DELA (Japan) model from Japanese to English by adding this line:
    language = en
  6. After changing the language setting in the minimserver.options file, restart MinimServer by selecting Settings > Music Database > Media Server App from the device front panel and select Off, then select MinimServer.

Creating and selecting a custom browsing profile

To create a custom (user-configured) profile for browsing your library, do the following:

  1. To do this, you need to have activated a 30-day free trial or a MinimServer 2 full license (see above)
  2. Use the MinimServer configuration web page or MinimWatch to configure the property settings that you want to save as a custom profile
  3. From the MinimServer configuration web page (see above), select the Profiles tab
  4. Type the name of the profile that you want to create in the 'New profile' field, then select the 'Create Profile' button.
  5. The newly created profile will contain your current property settings and will become your current active profile.

To select a custom (user-configured) profile for browsing your library, do the following:

  1. To do this, you need to have activated a 30-day free trial or a MinimServer 2 full license (see above)
  2. From the MinimServer configuration web page (see above), select the Profiles tab. The Select tab will automatically be selected below the Profiles tab.
  3. Select any of the available profile choices and click the 'Select Profile' button
  4. The new profile will be selected and MinimServer will restart. When the restart has completed, the new profile will be active.
  5. You can check the current status of MinimServer (see above) to see when the restart has completed

Updating MinimServer

To check for and install a new version of MinimServer, do the following:

  1. From the device front panel main menu, select Settings > Music Database > Version Check
  2. If there is a newer version of MinimServer available, it will be shown
  3. Select OK to download and install the new version
  4. Some minor updates are delivered automatically as online updates when MinimServer starts. For this, your Melco or DELA device needs to have internet access.

Viewing MinimServer log files

To view the MinimServer log files, do the following:

  1. Open the network shared folders page for your Melco or DELA device.
  2. On Melco Intelligent Music Library models and all DELA models, open the Logs shared folder. This shared folder is accessible when MinimServer is installed.
  3. On Melco N1Z and N1A models (not EX Series), open the share shared folder.
  4. Open the MinimServer subfolder to view the MinimServer log files.

Installing MinimStreamer

To install the optional MinimStreamer component (including FFmpeg for transcoding), do the following:

  1. To install and run MinimStreamer, you need to either purchase and activate a full license or activate a free 30-day trial (see above).
  2. From the MinimServer configuration web page (see above), select the MinimStreamer tab and click the Install button.
  3. If MinimStreamer is not shown as available, this probably means you have not activated a free 30-day trial or full license.
  4. For details of how to do use MinimStreamer, see the MinimStreamer User guide.

Stopping and starting MinimServer

To stop or start MinimServer, do the following:

  1. From the device front panel main menu, select Settings > Music Database > Media Server App
  2. To stop MinimServer, select Off
  3. To start MinimServer, select MinimServer
  4. To stop MinimServer and start Twonky, select TwonkyServer
